Music inspiration - what is it? where do I find it?

Music inspiration can be as evasive as a pretty teenage girl, if not worse!!!

If you want inspiration, but don't already have it, this might seem to be somewhat of a problem. Now, the truth of the matter is probably quite different. If you have an impulse to create music, this probably means that, somewhere within you, you have the basic resources to do so, already.

So the issue has more to do with believing in one self and those ephemeral feelings that we call inspiration, than anything else, really. Simple, but hard...

Having said that, just sitting and waiting for inspiration is not likely to be very productive. Tchaikovsky, when asked what he thought about inspiration, said:

"...inspiration likes to find us working hard..."

Nothing could be more true. Hard work and rigor are the true counterpart of pure inspiration. Either one without the other will NOT produce music. Inspiration without the tools is plain wishful thinking. And rigor without inspiration is insipid. It might turn out to be musicology, or "music" that is so perfectly technical, that it's dead.

An other key factor to music inspiration, which most artists will deny, is acknowledgement. When others appreciate what we do, this always gives us a strong creative boost. I'm not suggesting that the motivation to music making should be catering to others' wishes. Do as your passion dictates: What I mean is that it is important to find people with similar views and likes. Support is always essential, in every way. And believe me, if you make a strong statement, attract like-minded people who will support you, you will.

And being in the right setting, having the proper equipment, and so on are also crucial points -which leads us back to our music business plan...

So, to make a long answer short: music inspiration is within you, just believe in it!!!
But you need true rigor and knowledge to turn that into a reality for yourself and others to actually hear. Find the right people to surround yourself with, and every aspect of the process will be infinitely easier.

And finally: you need a viable music business plan that will allow you to live from your passion: what could me more satisfying, fulfilling and inspiring than that?
